I was commissioned by Provident Bank to paint their calendar for 2025. This is the third time I have done their calendar. It was a huge honor to be asked and especially so as this is one of their branches, and this building turns 100 years in 2025. They usually choose one of the historic buildings of Riverside, CA, and this time it just happened to be special for them. As their Marketing team floated the idea of how it looked way back 100 years ago, it occurred to me to take photos of how it looks now and imagine part of it like it would have looked then. "Morphing" it from old to new, was how I imagined it and I did not want to infringe any copyright of other existing images. I just had to think what the color would look like in the old part. I researched various tones of sepia, and settle on one type, which I matched with my watercolors. I also added a vintage car in the matching tone. Once this part was done, I did a study, had it approved and then did this image, which is on a full sheet of watercolor paper, 21" x 29". It came out pretty close to how I envisioned it at first, but as the building lacked too much interest in the front, I added interesting shadows in blues, greens and purples to bring it to life. The painting has been framed and is set to hang inside the same building.
